Dental anxiety is a common hurdle in the dental office. At True North Family Dental Care, we take the time to make sure that our patients feel comfortable. For our more apprehensive patients or for more extensive dental procedures, we offer oral sedation to make dental visits a more positive experience.

What To Expect From Oral Sedation

Sedation by oral medications is designed to decrease anxiety associated with dental treatment. When the oral sedative takes effect, it is common to feel more relaxed and a bit drowsy. It is important to note that anyone taking oral sedation will be conscious during the dental appointment but will likely not remember most of the appointment. Those partaking in oral sedation will have to be driven to their appointment and arrive 90 minutes early. The sedative is taken in the office where the patient can be monitored properly. After the appointment, the patient must be driven home and accompanied by a responsible adult who will be with the patient until the sedation has completely worn off.
